Panic Therapy – What You Need to Know about Panic Attacks

One of the conventional panic therapies is the CBT or the cognitive-behavioral therapy. It is a panic therapy utilizing the principle of one’s coping mechanism where a person needs to deal with his problem with guidance from professionals.

If your panic attack is just an array of mood swings, CBT as a panic therapy can work well even alone. However, you can employ other methods of treatment if there will be more than just mood instabilities. This is to ensure that the treatments combined will produce desirable results.

Two ways by which the person can be treated in CBT:

Cognitive

At the cognitive level, you will be guided by therapist to dig from your thoughts the triggering factor why you will have panic attacks. This is the basics of panic therapy. During this exercise, you will realize that your thoughts are actually exaggerating and amplifying certain threats that do not even exist and this gets the better of your system.

Some of the triggering factors are excessive worries, sensation of threats or emergency and Unpleasant emotions such as pain.

Going through the cognitive phase of panic therapy will let you know that your thoughts are unrealistic for the most part. The therapist will guide you to apply logic and rationalize with these thoughts.

Behavioral

This part of panic therapy will let you discover the cause of your anxiety panic attacks which is usually by a situation or object. Having known these concrete causes of panic attacks, your therapist will then expose you to such triggers. This panic therapy is like the treatments being done to phobia patients.

The objectives of the behavioral phase are: 1. be able to face your problem and 2. To be able to do away with medicines and dependence to people.

Above all this, the first step in starting panic therapy is when you accept that you do have a problem. When you deny the truth, it will only lead to the failure of CBT to work.
